Can’t Stay Mad at Loki

A question I’ve been hearing quite often in Marvel-related discussions is, “How can people love Loki so much after the events of The Avengers?” As the release of Thor: The Dark World drew near, the question then became, “How are we as an audience supposed to accept a genocidal villain like Loki as a secondary protagonist? How will the writers elicit any sympathy out of us?”It’s an interesting point, and I’m grateful that the writers did not shy away from tackling it (quite successfully too), especially when they could have taken the much easier and equally successful route of relying simply on Loki’s built-in fanbase and Tom Hiddleston’s natural onscreen charisma.

Science: How Much Does Thor’s Hammer Weigh?

According to Marvel, Thor’s Hammer weighs 42.3lbs, but there’s a lot of people out there thinking otherwise, namely those who think that Mjolnir was made from the stuff of a dying star when in fact it was forged inside a dying star.

Big difference there. But if the hammer was indeed made from the material of a neutron star, how heavy would it actually be?

Amazing: Mjölnir (Thor: The Dark World) In-Real-Life [Man At Arms]

Our master swordsmith Tony Swatton forges your favorite weapons from video games, movies, and television. On this episode, he tackles Mjölnir, Thor’s Hammer featured in the film Thor: The Dark World.

NOTE: Tony Swatton and Man At Arms have no connection to or involvement with the Thor franchise.

If Superheroes Had Instagram

What would happen if all your favorite comic book heroes were suddenly into vintage filters and unnecessary hashtags?

It’s good to know that even when you’re out there, fighting crime and saving the world, there’s still always time to snap a pic, make it look old and crappy with a filter, add hashtags, post it on Instagram, wait for people to like it, get frustrated when no one likes it, punch a bad guy to release the anger, and then text your best friend, “Hey, Robin, can you like my post on Instagram? lol no one’s liked it yet. Thanks, you’re the best! We’re still on for bowling at 8, right?”

DIY High Voltage Thor’s Hammer: Mjolnir at 80,000 Volts

I wanted Thor’s hammer (Mjolnir), but I wasn’t going to accept any old boring plastic prop. I needed something with a little more POP.

I worked with Staci Elaan to build this hammer that has a solid state tesla coil inside. When you push the button, 80,000 volts of electricity arc from the top.

It will light up any flourescent bulbs around, scare children, and leave the smell of ozone behind. It is super fun!
